An early 20th century tall Italian bronzed terracotta urn by Manifattura di Signa (1895-1930)

Florence, circa 1920
Manifattura di Signa was a company established in Florence during the later half of the 19th century specialising in the reproduction of predominantly neoclassical statuary and garden ornamentation. It employed previously unknown techniques for the bronzing of terracotta items to make them appear old and antique, employing many young craftsmen without previous experience who were given free reign to experiment with different finishes and styles. A range of reproduction items were produced from Etruscan statuary to Greek, from Roman to Renaissance, from Moorish vases to contemporary Art Nouveau creations.
